This was actually my orignal plan. I was going to pick up my daughter who lives in Lee county and go there. She had a change of plans, so we both agreed to do that on another day.
(and I'm guessing less people are flying in and out today, due to forecast for freezing rain)
I am late, but was going to suggest Parker's in Wilson as well...or Fiesta Grill just west of Carrboro. Not an hour away from Cary, but still great Mexican.
I was in a similar position and ended up heading west to Greensboro. I stopped at Daily Donuts in Graham for donuts, went to a spot in downtown Greensboro for lunch called Crafted (had pulled pork/Mac & cheese tacos), went to Guilford Courthouse National battlefield (thought about the Greensboro Science Center but figured it would be too cold for the animals today), went and grabbed a book at Schuppernong Books, a slice of cheesecake at Cheesecakes By Alex, then picked up a bag of frozen pork & chive dumplings at Sister Liu’s in Durham since today is Chinese new year.
I ended up at Chicken Bee in Durham. Circumstances had me in that area, and it just caught my attention.
It was very good, not great, but was right for my mood.
Thanks to all who responded. I have a bunch of new places to try, and a few 'back on my list'. Thanks!
919: I thought about Johnson's. Been there twice before. I think they may be takeout only now, but regardless, the weather (and the prospect of waiting in line to get inside) led me to wait for a better day. That place is an experience. Definitely within the spirit of my inquiry.
Never heard of Chicken Bee! There is a place I love in Durham called Chicken Hut - it's in a not so great neighborhood of Durham but the fried chicken there is worth it.
