The U.S. is lining up for the Triangle to bid on hosting the summer World University Games in 2027, which would be a neat experience. I was a high schooler in Buffalo back in '93, the only other time they were held in the U.S. Played in the marching band for the opening ceremonies with Natalie Cole and Kenny Rogers also performing, and the event saw several new athletic facilities constructed in the area to support the games. Typically brings in 5,000-10,000 athletes from around the world in the second-biggest multi-sport event, obviously behind the Olympics.

The Triangle hosted the US Olympic Festival in 1987. We have that experience under our belts.

Some of us volunteered for that. The challenge was to get the Dean Dome, I-40 to Chapel Hill, and the American Airlines terminal at RDU opened in time. I remember watching the torch pass by, although I don't remember exactly where that happened.

This time is much bigger. It's global event. It's like Atlanta hosting the Summer Olympics in 1996.
By 2027 my mortgage is paid off. The house price will be skyrocking.

I'm pretty surprised they didn't pick Boston or SoCal for the bid. Boston bid for Summer Olympics before. They also have a pretty heavy academic atmosphere. I wonder which stadium is gonna be used for the opening and closing ceremony. Carter-Finley is the only choice so far.

If the World University Games were hosted in North Carolina, it would be the largest event of any kind ever held in the state!
Great ambition!
