Would North Carolina State University student housing better than student housing not operated by the university? Does anyone know how the student housings on Collegeview Ave, close to NCSU are like in terms of safety/security, quietness, etc... Really appreciate some insights!

I have to say that on-campus housing is probably the way to go. Some off-campus complexes have major management issues. The Preiss Company has a really bad reputation. My husband had to call the fire marshall out just to get the company to listen to his concerns about faulty wiring in his apartment. I feel like university-operated housing is managed better. But that's just my opinion.

I liked being able to walk to class and not worry about the Wolfline. The Wolfline is great, but I never liked being completely dependent on it.

None of the student complexes will be particularly quiet. Safety/security is anyone's guess depending on the area. Crime seems to have risen recently around campus. Personally, I felt like having an RA was a good resource for noise issues. I have heard that College Inn and University House are particularly loud party atmospheres (with thin walls).

My honest view of Collegeview Ave. is that it's not the greatest area. Not the worst, but not the best.

I've heard good things about Wolf Village apartments (but stay away from ES King Village across the street).

Default Look for privately-owned off-campus housing

We have 2 condos in Lake Park (near NCSU) that we rent. We maintain home warranties on both - so our tenants have easy access to repair services as soon as needed. We have 2 sons in college in Maryland - so we try to look out for temants as if they are family. I doubt we are unique. I suggest if you are looking to live off campus, you look for privately-owned units - talk to and get a sense of the potential landlord.
