The Hwy 70 / I-40 W merge (I40 exit 309) drives me nuts!!! When there's traffic, everyone moves over to the left lane, making it soooo backed up, and you have this long empty right lane. I take that right lane, then no one wants to let you merge where it's ending because they think you're skipping the line. Ugh!
Oh this made me laugh and laugh. As someone who used to handle auto insurance claims I can assure you that the vast majority of people in this state don't know the MV laws already on the books. You think another one is gonna help?!

Not really, but one can only hope. At least I'll have the satisfaction of knowing I'm following the law every time I get the finger and horn blow!
The old-timer in me that first saw the headline wondered if this meant Jim Bakker was reviving his old operations and moving it to the area. What a relief to learn I was wrong.
Haha, the guy who introduced the bill spends a lot of time on I-40 between Asheville and Winston-Salem. There's always a single-lane segment of that part of I-40.
Zipper is a great idea but I don't expect passing a law in NC to magically change driver behavior overnight.
Entitled Zipper merge drivers on the right or even on the shoulder, passing slow moving vehicles at a high rate of speed exemplify selfishness with their "Me First!" attitudes.
Zipper law is fine, but as most have posted, education is the prime mover in such a theory. There are several less complicated laws many drivers can't follow already, left lane (oops, at risk of closing this thread), traffic circles, yield right at intersections, etc.
Then of course, you have the person who has all day, just cruising around enjoying life as they wave 10 cars into the merge rather than one.
