Like you said, it's only natural for people to want to live or socialize with people that are similar to themselves.

I don't understand why it matters what the majority is. If you're new here, you're new here, and you want to find people similar to you.
The schools also have a problem with families wanting to go to schools with similarly-minded people. That's what they call "lack of equity".
I have no issue with people wanting to be around people that are like them. But it's not right for it to only be acceptable for some races.
Let's see you move to China for a job and see what happens. And don't tell me nobody moves to China. They have a lot of people from African countries moving there for work.
I'm sure you will be dying to "meet" some American friends initially when you move to China.

I'm not disagreeing. And I wouldn't blame the native Chinese people for wanting to hang out with people that they find are similar to themselves as well.
My initial post was tongue-in-cheek due to the double standard. I do not blame the OP at all for wanting to find Chinese friends.
Believe it or not you can also meet people through LinkedIn. I've met people through that site. It might be a bit more challenging because of Covid affecting so many in-person groups like Meetup. But, start with your hobbies, do check out meetup, do some Google searches for your zip code + asian social groups.

I think you’re taking an implied societal double standard and then assuming all of us have that viewpoint. I for one personally do not care where you choose to live and whom you associate with.
I understand the double standard, but I am the one that would still look weird if I say, "Hey, I just moved to the Triangle and looking for some white friends to hang out with. Please PM me."
Because the majority of the country is still white. There are white people everywhere. If you need help finding white friends, then you got a problem.
Race shouldn't be a consideration when making friends.
Race also shouldn't be a consideration when forming relationships.
I would offer to meet up with the OP and shoot the breeze but since my DNA isn't properly coded I'm not qualified to respond directly. I wish I could be more helpful.

Easy for you to say because you're white. But if you are looking to be aware of your culture that you brought from elsewhere on this planet, then you would care.
Put yourself in someone else's shoes for once rather than acting like the Universe revolves around you. It helps figure out a lot of things.

And, people like to claim "We've made progress...."
Yeah. The OP might should want to be MY friend, so I can bore him to death with self-centered stories of living in whiter-than-white rural Pennsylvania so he knows I am superior to him and his Chinese heritage, so he will want to assimilate.
Jeeeeeze. People.

To be fair, I think even Europeans moving here probably wouldn't mind befriending people from the same country as them. NC State is partnered with a french business school and there's an exchange program and they all end up just hanging out together (because they can speak french with each other and have similar values/shared culture etc....)
