I have read several places that wake county's crime rates are relatively low ( i checked the FBI reports and they sure are) But i keep hearing that most of the crime is located in one small area of the county... can someone please point out where that area is? since ive only visited one time for a couple days, and didnt have a lot of time to really check out the areas, i really need to know so we can decide on an apartment.. you know things always seem a lot different after you live there. One apartment we most liked was a place called autumn river going north towards wake forest, how is that area? ive always heard good things about that particular area.

Is that on Durant Rd? If so, I recall seeing reports of things stolen from cars and apartments every once in a while. Its very close to where I live though and lots of people in my neighborhood have lived there while their homes are being built. I don't think that it would be a problem to live there, its a very safe area of town. I think apartment complexes have more crime like that though--its easier to rob a car in a huge parking lot than right in front of a house. KWIM? Also, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the crime is due to carelessness like leaving doors unlocked and things like that.

Call the police department to see if they will give you info on that particular apt complex. I don't think its anything to worry about, no more than normal crime that can happen anywhere. Its a very nice area.

Just imho, Autumn River is in a great location - new shopping centers, close to the mall, minutes to downtown and RTP. Of course, the employees are not allowed to answer questions about crime, just like they're not allowed to answer questions about whether or not it is a good place for "singles" or "families", so if they seemed evasive, it's a legal thing.
You can call the police district for specific stats on that community, though.
