Still, both places are great places to work. We will see which culture wins out. I've worked in acquisitions on the technical side before, the culture usually follows the name on the paycheck.

Big change if sale goes through. Private company to public.

I bet there will be cost-cutting as normally occurs when acquisitions occur. SAS has lots of perks; it won't be surprising if some of those go away and others are charged as extras for those who use them.

The last place I worked you had to buy your own coffee; nothing but filtered tap water was free.

Don't forget the fearsome "synergies."

But, yup.

I've been through so many mergers/acquisitions/divestitures/reorgs/more reorgs/even more than that reorgs/layoffs throughout the last 20 years or more.

SAS lifers, who have never experienced anything but the tranquility of ducks floating by in ponds, while they gaze out their windows, are in for a shock if they are acquired. There will probably be a flotilla of long-time SASers opting for packages, while the gettin' is good.

I don't know about all of Broadcom’s business, but from what I do know this seems like a really out in left field purchase. Like zero relation other than they doth deal with bits and bytes.

Interesting. You answered the question I came here to ask. I work in a completely unrelated field and don't have a good sense for what a purchase like this could mean for existing SAS employees.

Broadcom takes cost-cutting to an entirely different level compared to many acquiring companies. They make even some PE firms look wasteful.
