I think 12 hours is probably pretty close to reality. I live nearly 2 hours from Boston (in central CT) and it takes me about 10-11 hours to get to Raleigh-so 12 hours sounds about right. This, of course, doesn't take into account any of the traffic tie-ups that can occur going around DC or NYC, or even 95 in Ct.

Last time I went to Raleigh, it was 10.5 hours going down, but 13 coming back-we sat on 95 in CT for two hours! ugh.

Wow! OK then it's good to know my horrible trip to NJ that time was a fluke and probably had to do with the time of day.

JdAtlas - I may take you up on that! Wherever I move, I miss food from the old place :-P (have already been looking up authentic Mexican in Boston)

Garden State Parkway (exit 11). Specifically look for 287 East (not North) to TapenZee Bridge. Look for 684 (exit 9A, Brewster), it will be North) to 84 East (exit 9E) to 90 East, Mass Turnpike.
This is great advice.

Picante Mexican Grill This place is in Central Square in Cambridge. If I remember correctly there are a lot of Mexican restaurants in that area. I believe there are quite a few in Somerville too.

I would advise you to live as close to the city as you can if that is possible. When I first moved to the US we lived in Allston and then Somerville. We were out and about experiencing the city ever day and every weekend. There is so much to see and do. Once we decided to have children we moved to Central Massachusetts and while that was probably the best place to raise them for the schools etc. it was b-o-r-i-n-g. Brookline might be a good choice. If you have any questions about life in MA feel free to contact me.
