I keep getting offers from the Mazda dealership to buy my 2018 Mazda3 - they started at $16,000 last year and are now up to $22,000........(I paid $27,000 for it - but I guess if I sell, I'm just going to have to buy a more expensive car)
I just saw ads from a Hyundai dealership putting a $3000 premium on their 2022 Elantra models. It was a "shortage premium". I am even less tempted to buy a new car with that tactic. Furthermore a huge majority of the sedans have black upholstery. I refuse to accept black upholstery which get so hot when left outdoors. Don't the maufacturers allow for southern climats?
Is it still possible to test drive a car if you're not sure what you want or want to be sure it's what you're looking for? Or do you have to buy sight unseen all the time now?
Seeing the prices as well as the lack of deals makes me very glad I'm not in the market to buy a new car anytime soon.
The prices will only continue to go up, of course. The ability and willingness to keep a car for as long as possible is the way to go, especially when consumers are faced with a climate like today: supply issues and the lack of price elasticity.
I took my car to a smaller Chevrolet dealership last week for service. They had zero new cars on the lot, and very few pre owned. They can’t get them.
I bought a used 2014 Ford Edge with 97k miles for much more than I wanted to spend. Needed a car for my kids to share to relieve the burden on my wife and I. Used market is crazy. Ever time I saw a car pop up that met my needs it was already under contract.
Mrs. NBP took delivery of a new Forester the first week of July that she'd ordered in May. Nothing off sticker, which isn't unusual for Subaru in any event, but no "Market Adjustment" or "Additional Dealer Markup" like the other dealers were/are doing (yeah Ford, I'm looking at you. Plus $10K ADM for a F150?).
The day we picked it up there was a guy standing by it yelling at our saleslady that he'd pay ten thousand over sticker if he could have it.
.....Are there any dealer recommendations where I can literally do the entire thing from my chair? Loved buying from Carvana a few years ago, but unfortunately that's not an option anymore.
Why isn't it an option anymore ?
We've used Carvana twice, sold the first car back to them when #2 was purchased...very happy with armchair car shopping with Carvana, it will take an act of congress to get me back on a car lot....

Carvana lost their license to sell from their Raleigh location.

MAYBE they'll get reinstated in 2022, but the se issues have occurred in other states, with resultant penalties and suspensions.
