I guess with teen drivers I worry that a car shouldn't hit the house next door.

Thoughts?
the house next door is going to be at least 5 ft and probably more from the edge of your driveway. If anybody can't feel the car go off the driveway within 5 ft, they maybe shouldn't be driving.

But yes - I have seen some rare side load garages that required 3 point turns to get out of.

We have a side load (our house was built in the 90's and it's a larger lot). It wasn't anything I thought of either way until my husband said it was his preference when we were looking at houses. We've had a college age and high school age drivers in this house and it was never a concern that they'd hit the house next door. As others have said I'd worry more about your driveway being big enough to back out especially if you have several cars in the family.

I have a rear load, I don't like the look of the garage in front either. My inlaws have a side load but it is oversized so they have plenty of room.

I feel pretty strongly about this. I can't stand the look of a front facing garage, especially when the garage dominates the front elevation of the house. I think I'd rather just not have a garage.

I have a side-load garage and it does require a larger lot and more driveway (unless it's a corner lot). The houses are far enough apart that there's not much risk of hitting another house.

On puny lots they wouldn’t work. I think turning radius requires 20 to 25 ft beyond the door as a minimum. On a true custom build they are awesome. Mine had house type windows on the side entry garage and i used curtains similar to the rest of the house. Looked nice. And even the pickup truck swung easily into the garage in bad weather.
