Yet another shooting at the sketchy Motel 6 off Buck Jones Road in Cary. I'm surprised Cary hasn't shut this place down yet. They could very easily send in the health department and have it shutdown for "code violations" like they did for the Quality Inn on New Bern Ave...
My understanding is that technically, the Quality Inn on New Bern was dinged because it didn't have functional alarms for smoke and carbon monoxide and functional emergency lights. That's not difficult to fix. There are other hotels that are similar magnets for crime, such as the Wake Inn (former Days Inn) next to WakeMed on New Bern. And it's not limited to southeast Raleigh. Seems to me that the Super 8 on Hollyridge off Glenwood in northwest Raleigh has had its share of troubles over the years.
Municipalities can insist on code compliance, but they can go only so far without being sued by the property owner and/or the hotel operator. The only real solution is for the municipality to buy the property and tear down the hotel.

Not if there aren't actual violations that justify a closure. And even if it were closed temporarily for a violation, it could just reopen shortly thereafter once whatever it was was fixed.
I doubt it'll be around much longer though with all the development in the area. They'll probably get an offer they can't refuse and sell so something more Cary can go in there. The unpleasant stuff will have to move elsewhere out of sight.
I'm sure they'll crack down once their jewel of a sports center goes in next door.
You know some Motel 6 locations are not bad. If they would just fix up the Cary location it might be OK for people looking for a cheaper motel. Not everyone can stay at the Marriott...... if they're blacklisted.
The Super 8 on Hollyridge does look somewhat seedy, but in the 15 years I've lived near there, I've never heard about problems. It's in an area surrounded by nice retail stores and residential neighborhoods. What have I missed?

A few drug busts in recent years. The bad problems were before you moved there. I recall a hostage situation but the search function at www.newsobserver.com is down this morning (attaboy, McClatchy webmaster).
I’ll use this the next time someone says how dangerous *Durham* is. I guess we should all avoid living in or going to Cary now?
