I am in town this week from RI and looking for a nice place to live. We thought we were looking for a suburb, but you mentioned inside the beltline being a good place to look. I think we will check it out. Being in the city, does that mean much less land available. We would like to get close to a 1/2 acre.
I guess the best thing to do is try to find the areas you mentioned!
what is the beltline? I saw that alot when looking at apartments that are low income.
The freeway that is called 440 (or 40/440) is the beltline
Funny thing is on the same freeway there seems to be signs for inner beltway and outer beltway...on the same road. Very strange. It basically rings the city of Raleigh... in fact I'd say almost all of Raleigh is a series of circles! Eventually you end up where you left off if you just keep driving. At least many of the major roads.
For those of us who have been here long enough (hell, I have been here long enough to not have 40 connecting anything, but that is an aside), the beltline used to be north, south, east, west, but it seemed to confuse everyone, because in order to figure out which direction to go in, you really needed to know where you were...........
So, they changed it to inner and outer beltline. So, 440 is the beltline, inner and outer and 540 is called the outer loop. Nice, huh? I think the DOT purposely does this just to confuse all people who have not lived in the area longer than, let's say a month!
The 440 outer loop is always outside of the inner, meaning that when you are on the outer, downtown is always to your left. While on inner, downtown is always to your right. Or rather, inner is clockwise and outer is counterclockwise. It connects with I-40 on the south side of town, US-1 on the west, and NC-64 on the west.
