Interesting on 2 car garages. We fit 1 compact SUV fine, but could barely squeeze another car in there. We do not since the lawn mower and other junk. Measured it and it was 18.5 x 19...guess we got jipped lol!

We live in a market and time that prioritizes competitive $$$/SF, beyond common sense or quality.

With garages, porches, stoops, decks, screen porches, parking pads and other concrete flatwork, land, landscaping, windows, fixtures, cabinetry and trim, etc, etc, being cost items and not providing marketable SF, builders will scrimp on those items to provide the lowest $$$/SF they can get away with.

Ergo the 18.5 x 19SF "2 car garage."

Not sure what that has to do with the thread, but yes you are correct.

There are lots of townhomes in Apex to buy or rent, wonderful walkable downtown area, Farmers Market, good restaurants, good schools with lots of sports if you have the need, plenty of grocery stores, Target, Walmart, etc., commute would be do-able. People here from all over the country and outside the US. This town is really growing!

Guess I should appreciate the fact that the garage on our new home is 18.8 X 20.6! So far we are only parking a Miata in there. We will see what is doable once we finish unpacking, but right now we do enjoy being able to store the trash cans and baby stuff in there. There is no overnight street parking in our neighborhood; I guess that is typical in this area. Our old neighborhood had wider streets and actually encouraged it, as a way of "traffic calming."

I don't know the size of the garage at Mom's, but she used to park a 1970's station wagon in it. That car was huge (ok, I was a kid). Along with Dad's car and a work bench. And some storage on the side.

Consider that many lane sizes are 18.5 ft for two lanes. That means walking between two cars in those modern homes is essentially “lane splitting”. And how do you have room to open the doors? Yikes.

Guess that means parking in the driveway if you have a lawnmower or bicycles.

You might be able to get a townhome for that, but you're really pushing it. Morrisville is a highly sought after location, for exactly the reason you are looking there.

You will very likely have to expand your search radius. Cary/Apex/Morrisville is essentially the same super-suburb, and all of it is safe (and pricey).

If you really want a house (not a townhome) and a yard for that budget, look at Holly Springs/Fuquay.

540 is a toll road, but it's not that expensive if you have a transponder, and it makes for a reasonable commute.
