If like me you woke up after Christmas Day with some surprises on the local FM radio, here's what's going on. Curtis Media realigned its frequencies at multiple stations. This meant that KIX 102.9, the top oldies station, added simulcasting on two stations nearby both on the dial as well as within the market (at 102.3 in Smithfield and 102.5 in Hillsborough) to boost its signal at the edges of the local market. Despite the main oldies station’s signal covering only part of the market, it nevertheless ranked fifth overall in the November 2022 Nielsen Audio ratings with a 5.1 share, so apparently Curtis thinks there's potential for even more listeners to reach via terrestrial radio. Given the setup, the station now call itself KIX 102 for all three stations.
At the same time, the Hillsborough station at 102.5 had previously been simulcasting Pulse-FM from 96.9 out of Goldsboro. Now, Pulse-FM is simulcast on 104.7 for both Raleigh and Youngsville. The latter stations had been rebroadcasting Oldies 850 from WKIX AM. That brand is now Oldies 93.5 on the FM dial from a station based in Cary.

There are still a lot of old cars on the road. My wife's old Camry (2010), which we kept for our teenage sons, does not have Bluetooth. It probably has an AUX connection, but for the limited amount of time that I drive it, I just use the radio.
Yep. I'm cheap/commute isn't long enough to justify the expense.
Glad to know where I can find the older oldies, thanks for posting. 104.7 turned into non-oldies and was wondering where I would/could find it in this market
Yeah, for very short trips, it's easier to just listen to whatever is coming on FM or AM. I had started listening to WPTF 680AM during the pandemic for constant news but the constant talk shows are getting annoying
I still listen to broadcast radio in my car (and it's a 2023 with all the bells and whistles). It works just fine for me, and I don't have to fiddle with any apps or streaming radio. If I'm on a long distance drive, I'll usually listen to an audiobook.
People still listen to broadcast radio? I get all my stations on TuneIn
I am still impressed with ThatStation.net, on 95.7 (and now on 101.5 HD2). They play a lot of local/NC artists and things you don't hear on other stations. They are available on-line as well.
