Grew up in eastern NC so I know there aren't many walkable areas in Raleigh in general, but it has been 15+ years and I have no idea how things have changed. I just want an apt or townhouse somewhere I can walk to a store/bar (don't need tons of options) and ideally isn't packed full of college students. I'll be working from home so freeway access/lack thereof isn't a huge deal
People are gonna ask budget, best to state that. I live in Holly Springs, I can walk to a bar/ grocery store in 10 minutes. Market 2018 Holly Spring (google that), are townhouses and is even closer to Bass Lake shopping center and you can easily walk downtime/food lion. It's definitely more of a raise your family area, but figured I would respond.
Depends on if you're looking for the urban feel I guess. If not, then something like Park West in Morrisville would work well. Bradford in Cary also has what look like nice apartments that are walkable to practically everything you need.
Otherwise you're probably looking at DT Raleigh, DT Durham, and maybe DT Cary.
Single mid-30s (yikes....I'm going to stick with early 30s for at least the next 7 months if I can) guy here.
"Packed with college students" I guess is all relative. DT Raleigh and DT Durham both obviously "share" the scene with college students from State and Duke respectively; but the grown-up crowd is still there as well.
Some of the newer less traditional downtown developments have been mentioned like Park West, Parkside, and I would throw in Brier Creek and Southpoint as well. Certainly not as lively as the downtown areas but all have walkable amenities and are not really "party spots" for the college kids.
