Thinking that staying somewhere for about a month might be the way to go so I can have some time to check various Raleigh/RTP areas for townhouses to rent - finding it near impossible to do otherwise being out of state.

Web sites/realtors to date haven't been much help, frankly, as I've found almost nothing. Would even consider a monthly rate from a hotel.

Any info along these lines really appreciated!

Candlewood suites gave great rates for weekly/monthly rental when I had to find something long-term for a relative in town for medical treatment (Couldn't stay with me due to disability).

I would suggest posting a want ad on craigslist to see if you could find a sublet, the area is teeming with graduate students and it's hard to believe that none of them would want to sublet to you for a month while they are away.

Otherwise, there is a Hilton Homewood Suites in Cary, off of 64 near MacGregor. For extended stay (1 month), it looks like it would be somewhere in the vicinity of $4500 (not including discounts or taxes.) Extended Stay Hotel - Cary, North Carolina, NC - Homewood Suites Hotels

OR Extended Stay Deluxe Suites off Regency Parkway in Cary. More like $1500 for a month Extended Stay Deluxe Hotels - Raleigh/Durham hotels for business travel and long term vacations in North Carolina

Both these hotels are in Cary, but IMO, centrally located for exploring Cary, Raleigh, and even Chapel Hill and Durham. I have not been in the market for this type of lodging, so my suggestions are based soley on places I happen to drive by on a regular basis!! Good luck.

I know Governor's Point (apts) in Raleigh has short term rentals.. I believe they are more epensive, but last time I checked (about a year ago) they were still doing this.. month to month. Maybe give them a call.

Hey the "extended stay" site has various options. I think this will fill the bill for now. Thanks!

FYI there are companies that work with apt complexes to do this - feel free to PM me and I will tell you all about several I have now dealt with - including who NOT to use.
