Our family is relocating within the next year from TX to NC. TX is too big, hot, taxes out of hand and we have family all over NC. Looking forward to being close to beach and mountains and where we want to retire.
I have been talking to multiple area christian schools and all of them saying there is a waitlist.
My child has dreams of going to CH and is a good student and athlete.
Any insight into best private, christian preferred? Open on location due to remote work.
Thank you.

What denomination are you looking for? It will likely shape your decision. Since I don't know, here are a few that are good.
- Ravenscroft
- Cardinal Gibbons
- St. Davids
- Cary Christian Academy
- Grace Christian School
- North Raleigh Christian Academy
- St. Thomas More Academy
- Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill
If the schools all have wait lists not sure what youre really asking here. They are in the drivers seat and if a religious education is important to you then you’ll probably need to go where you get in. And your student will need to be better than good to go to CH so keep that in mind.

This is especially true if coming from a generally high-performing (which most are) private school.
You might also look at the Thales Academies in various locations. They use a "classical education" which may teach the values you want, minus expicit religious education. They get good reviews. The only location going through 12th grade seems to be Apex. Sports do not include football.

Agree--if the singular goal is to get your child into UNC then you'd be better off living in the sticks somewhere. Private school education or Wake County residents will have higher standards for admission.
Thank you for the responses. I will look into all the schools mentioned. I was hoping to maybe hear from families who have had kids in area privates. Our family has graduates from CH, State and Duke and I am very aware how competitive it is, the same with top TX universities.
As for the good student comment, our child is an A honor student and college choice not driving relo decision. The much lower cost of privates is a bonus compared to Houston where 2nd tier is 20-25k/year.
My son went to Cardinal Gibbons. We were very happy with the education he received and I regret not sending his younger sister there. He was not self motivated coming out of middle school and would have been happy to get lost in the "Cs get degrees" crowd at Green Hope, where if you're not fighting tool and nail to be top dog you can very much get lost there. He would have been fine with being under the radar there. Much harder to do at Gibbons, and he didn't talk to us for a week after being told he was going there. Now admits and acknowledges it was the best decision for him. He went to State and graduated Summa *** Laude in 3.5 years. Our daughter is entirely self motivated and a very involved student, so she was fine at GHHS....but the public school curriculum went downhill starting with her freshmen year and I can only imagine what she would have learned had she been at Gibbons. And yes Gibbons is a huge bargain right now.
