And what about finalist for best Mexican in Wake: Los Tres Magueyes. Jeez.

At least they were correct about best draft beer selection: Flying Saucer.

So, we've determined that Triangle residents know a good beer when they taste one, but as far as Mexican food (or Chinese food) is concerned, take their recommendations with a grain of salt.

WOW with all those BEST awards is their anyplace that is less-best or least best? I believe they are the places I seem to frequent in the Wake Forest area. But at least I know where to find the best when I'm out driving which with the price of gas is certainly 'least' lately!

Whole Foods got mentioned so many times I can almost picture them stuffing the ballot box.. Best Business Lunch as well as Best Outdoor Dining? That's just silly!

I haven't heard of most of the other places. Maybe we need a City-Data Reader's Choice list! :-)

Default Some of these are just plain 'ugh'

As always, many great thanks NRG, for the info! I, however, am inclined to disagree with some of these -- but you are right, 'good starting point.' Just don't let it be where you ultimately end-up.

This is absolutely a popularity contest, and businesses DO rally the vote.
Taken with a serious grain of salt and reasonable expectations, it can be a lot of fun, checking out some of the winners.
We just shouldn't get too wrapped up in using it to find the "Best" of much of anything.

I always find those "Best of" lists more suitable for entertainment than advice, but I thought the accompanying article on activities good for your kids and your parents had some really good suggestions: The best places to go with your kids—and your parents: Special Issues: Best of the Triangle: Independent Weekly: Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill

The one on places to just take your parents had some interesting ideas too: A parents weekend: Special Issues: Best of the Triangle: Independent Weekly: Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill

It is sad to see so many chains on the list. The Daily Tar Heel did a "Best of" last year, and Best Buy was listed as the best place to buy music. The editors commented something to the effect of: and this is why Schoolkids had to close, you stupid idiots.

I would of never guessed 'Best' Buy to lead in any category of 'Best' places..... Maybe that is why Circuit City can't catch up. Maybe if
they reinvent themselves they should go with 'Best' Circuit City!

Am I the only one that didn't like Cafe Capistrano? It seems family owned and the wait staff are all young kids that aren't very attentive. They also had stale chips and not a very authentic taste. I much prefer Mez off of Page and slater rd in Durham...that's a nice new mexican restaurant.
