This may seem like an odd question. I was wondering of there are laws in NC yet that ban smoking in restaurants like they have here in FL and in NY? If there aren't, are there any in the works for banning it?
I enjoy being able to go to a restaurant and eat without having smoke all up in my face and smelling like it when I leave (seeing as I am allergic to it!).

Thanks!
Although NC is a generally moderate to ever-so-slightly progressive state politically, I would be surprised to see NC move entirely smoke-free in restaurants any time soon, since this remains a key tobacco-producing state and there's lots of history around it.
Not to say some aren't making efforts in this regard, and I could well be proven wrong!
Yeah, the really sad part is, NC actually has a law that forbids any county or city from passing their own smoke-free restaurant laws!
So, the best we have to hope for is restaurants doing it voluntarily. Fortunately, in the Triangle, a pretty good number of restaurants are in fact doing this (and even more restrict it to just the bar area or patio). It isn't too hard to find smoke-free dining, particularly in the big cities.
This is something I agree with. The free market can decide which restaurants stay more profitable: smoking, non-smoking, or ones with designated smoking sections. I am not a smoker but I don't think the government should control private enterprise by banning smoking in restaurants. What if I want to open up a cigar lounge that also serves hors d'ouevres?
We have non-smoking restaurants.
We have restaurants where smoking is permitted.
I suggest you need to stay out of Waffle House.
I agree about the Waffle House. Also, Denny's on Capitol Blvd - we were there for breakfast and I almost got sick from breathing smoke and eating foods at the same time!
Smoking should be banned from all restaurants which I believe it is now. I just think that some people who smoke are not considerate of others. I do believe all restaurants and public places should have a designated place for smokers to smoke.
