I'm looking for recommendations from the folks at citydata about where I should look for places to rent in Chapel Hill and Durham. I'd like to live in a diverse neighborhood with people of different ethnic backgrounds and nationalities. It would be great if there are gay and lesbian folks living there as well.

I also want to live in a very safe and crime-free neighborhood. I last rented in a Chapel Hill neighborhood that seemed nice but I encountered a lot of crime there and it really scared the heck out of me.

I'm not looking at Carrboro because I need to commute to Cary and it's a bit too long.

Bump.
Anyone?

I have heard of some great neighborhoods in Durham. But I have no idea about Chapel Hill.

Honestly?
Anywhere.

Chapel Hill and Durham are both very diverse areas. I grew up in Raleigh and never had a problem anywhere that I lived.

If you are a female, do a google search for Trianglegrrrls. They might be able to help.

I think Timberlyne in Chapel Hill is a really safe and diverse area.
