Does anyone happen to know of any golf shops in the area (preferably near Durham, but Raleigh, CH, Cary also works) with a simulator or some other kind of method to test various clubs? I have a friend coming from overseas and they are interested in buying a new set of irons, but he would really like to test them beforehand. Any info would be appreciated, thanks!

Hillandale proshop is rated as one of the top in the country. Also, most shops nowadays have an area where you can test hit, including places like Dick's.

Golf Galaxy on 15-501 has a small hitting cage setup in the back - a few mats and does just fine. The granddaddy is Golfsmith in Raleigh on Glenwood between Brier Creek and Crabtree - it's the biggest Golfsmith store in the world and has like 10 mats - it's like Toys R Us for golfers.

Gotta agree with sneezecake about Golfsmith on Glenwood Ave in Raleigh. It is huge, and the hitting area is first rate. There is even a chipping area. Incidentally, if you also play tennis, they have a full size tennis court in the store!

Default Golf store

Dicks, as mentioned, at New Hope Commons has a room for whacking balls. Hillandale Golf Course has large events outside on the driving range from time to time with representatives from practically every golf club manufacturer you could think of. Northgate Mall will supposedly be opening some kind of store with a simulator.
