As a newcomer to Durham I was really interested to hear about the magnet schools programme. I am however more interested to hear about the locals viewpoints who live among them. While the montessori is nothing new, how about the others?

Smile I like GT Magnet program in Wake County

I am very happy with Gifted and Talented (GT) program in Wake County. They exposed elementary level kids to a wide variety of subjects in Art, Science, Math, Dance, Music etc. etc. My kids love the school too. Off-course they have a longer bus ride and a vary diverse class population(a pluse)

All the people I know who go to Club Blvd. love it. The curriculum is a good fit for their kids and the family involvement is high.

I've also heard good things about the Pearson Gifted & Talented magnet.

I'm sure the others are great, too; I just haven't heard as much about them.

School choice is a great thing about the Durham Public Schools.

If you have time before enrollment to go to the magnet fair in January, do!

(And welcome!)

My daughter attends Durham School of the Arts. We have a fantastic PTA and top notch academics. She is in middle school and it was announced at the last awards day that DSA middle school has the highest math scores in Durham County.

The last lottery there were 1,500 children applying for 300 slots. 200 in 6th grade and 100 for grades 7-11.
