<$130,000?.....goood luck, you are about 5 years too late for that.
??? im surprised to see how many people that live in the raleigh area will say things like this... i regularly check out homes in the 120-130k range, and always find quite a few "nice" homes in the wake county area. My question is, what are you standards? will you live in a home smaller than 2k square feet?
I currently live in fl, and for example, a home here for 160 will be an 1100 sq ft cynder block home built in 1980, with no aestheticly pleasing qualitites whatsoever, on an extremely tiny lot, usually just big enough for the house to sit on.
There i can find a home that is easily 1400 sq feet, many of them being, colonial, or traditional styles, built between the late 80's and early 2000's, with at least a back yard to speak of, for $30k - 35k less! Im curious to hear of your home standards.

Good points prius!
Location, location, location...
A home under 2000 sq ft. is definitely a good size for us...we currently live in a small 900 sq ft. home and are looking to expand (but not much)...so, it's possible that some of the homes I'm referring to (under 130,000) are homes that I would be comfortable living in, but others posting would not....we just want a starter home in a safe neighborhood/good school district...we are handy people and would love to do cosmetic changes on an older home..we prefer homes with character...thanks everyone for your replies
Zeelee, I regularly do searches of all of wake county at www.realtor.com (broken link), and www.remax.com. There is another site, unsure of the exact address, but its called triangle area properties (i think :S)

Though I havent checked it out yet, south of F-V on 401, I see a sign that points to "Starter Homes". It is close to Ballard Woods. I have seen a number of <$140k houses that have just hit the market.'
Hope that helps.
