based on my visits there I would say it was:

lack of customer service
not the best tasting items
an odd selection of sandwiches

but mainly, the customer service

I agree with Leigh. I will say though that they had great birthday cakes albeit a bit pricey.

Default Great News! New Bakery & Cafe, free bread today

Well, GREAT news. I've been watching the location, keeping an eye on it whenever I was in the area to see when the new bakery would open its doors. It took a while, but now there's a brand new bakery and cafe:

Soho Bakery & Cafe' "bringing you the freshes product, all bread and bagels baked fresh daily".

It looks like a real NY style bakery. I'm so excited to have a really good bakery in the area. Today is their first day of business and they're giving away free bread, rolls, etc.

They said to pass the word to everyone that they will be giving away all their fresh baked breads and rolls today. I just got home and tasted two types of rolls (one is a Kaiser, not sure what the other one is called), and they are both excellent! Also came home with a loaf of sour dough and seeded rye.

Their cakes and other sweet goodies are beautiful! I resisted buying any of those, as I don't need them. Good exercise for my self control. However, I know that I will be buying there before long. The stuff is just too tempting.

You are correct. The old bakery folded due to poor customer service, and these folks said they'll be sure to excell at that. They're a new operation, not connected with the previous one (I asked).

I took their menu with me, and the meals sound yummy and very reasonably priced. Corned beef Ruben...Pastrami Panini...roast beef panini...soups, salads, wraps...breakfast sandwiches and fresh bagels...yummmmm. They open at 8 a.m., but I forgot what time they close. Maybe 9 p.m. Located behind Remington Grill on S. Main St in Wake Forest. You can give them a call if you need any other information: 919-569-9509 or 569-9510.

No, I'm not related and don't have a business interest. I just love quality baked goods, and am happy they're here.

Don't forget to stop by for your free bread.

I stopped in the other day and bought a cheese danish and linzer tart. Both were so so, the danish was no where near as good as the ones at the German bakery in Durham (the one with the funny name).

Tried the SoHo Bakery and glad to exclaim that fresh 'real' Kaiser rolls are back! Not those store bought that can stay on your counter for a week without getting hard. These are the real thing just like what the former Manhattan Bakery use to make! Finally a place for fresh baked goods in Wake Forest is back!

I froze an extra loaf of seeded rye, and just took it out of the freezer to let it thaw on the counter. It tastes like fresh!

Gotta love those Kaiser rolls. They ARE good.

Note that they changed their opening from 6:00 AM to 6:30 AM. Probably not enough traffic that early in the morning.

tpitt - Where is that German bakery, or the name of it? Anyone know? I'd like to try that sometime when I'm in the neighborhood. In the meantime, the SoHo is only 15 mins away, so it suits us just fine.

I'm not sure I'd care for their sweet stuff, and I'm afraid to try it. I asked whether the same people bake their desserts, and they said yes. I tried a cake when it was the Manhattan Bakery, and it was soooo terribly sweet. Way too much sugar for my tastes.
They did say that there is some experimenting taking place to come up with new recipes and some sugar free stuff. I don't need the sugar free, but I would like them to cut back on the sugar a bit.
