Hi All, first-time poster, long time lurker.

We're looking at some homes in the Audubon Park neighborhood in south Durham, near RTP. We like the area a lot, but have noticed that the Triangle Wastewater Treatment Plant (TWWTP) on Route 55 backs right up against the subdivision, probably about a quarter mile away.

Does anyone know of any issues that come with living so near a sewage treatment plant? Smell? Noise? More importantly, health concerns?

I live in Audubon Park and have never noticed anything from treatment plant. I have never heard any one else complaining. Since all the water is city water I can't see any health concerns.

There is a north Cary plant that has been in exsistence for quite a while and it doesn't seem to have any effects on anyone.

There is a south Cary plant that backs up to The Park At West Lake. They begun to have some odor issues in 2007 but have been working on them for quite some time. It is my understanding that these issues have been resolved with new chemicals, etc. The only problem that I see is that some people do not want to be even close to the water treatment plants.

Vicki

Anyone else have any thoughts? I'm trying to find a good civil/environmental engineer to speak with. I'm not as concerned about having it near my neighborhood if it's safe - I'm just concerned about actual health risks.
