Have you read the article? Have you read some of the crap that people write about Durham? The article was spot on about the fact that residents from surrounding towns have the issue with Durham, not Durham residents and not people from further away.
Huh? People live in cities they like. So you saying people who live there like it isn't exactly breaking news. People who live in Cary and Raleigh and every other city in the US like it.
I don't think that's right. I believe you add either the city OR the fire district to the county rate. Were you in some kind of special bermuda triangle of taxation?

Nope. Had to add all 3 together when you lived where I did. It was popular there and they knew it. The Parkwood amount is small. Take out the Parkwood one if you want to and it will still be a big difference. I used to pay around 1.42% there, but it is lower now and so is Cary. But the difference between the two were and are huge. I don't make a lot of money, so I cannot afford to pay those kinds of taxes.

Okay, so we'll just note that this is a special case & almost all the rest of Durham is not like this. I'm curious specifically what neighborhood it was, but I will accept that's too much to share.

Not quite. All residents who live within the Durham city limits pay both county and city taxes. That equals 1.2481%, which is about 44% more than Cary's county and city tax total of .864%. Then you add on the special tax districts.
The easiest way to improve Durham would be to surrender the Southpoint area over to Cary. That area is boring, beige, commercial and suburban, so it really makes a lot of sense to let a similar area annex it.

Parkwood has been part of the city since it was annexed in over 8 or 9 years ago. There is no special tax for Parkwood that I know of and I live here/there..... What are you referring to???
