For those of you who had some of your popcorn ceilings removed, who did you use and how much did they charge? Last year I scraped off the popcorn in my dining room and half bath. It cost practically nothing & the ceilings look so much better than before. However, it was extremely labor intensive & I think I'd rather pay someone to do the rest of the public spaces in our home. It's bound to be cheaper than permanently damaging my back!

Funky Chicken, I have also used Benjamin Moore's Aura line in our house & I'm pleased with the results. I got mine at the True Value hardware store in the Woodcroft shopping center in southern Durham - which just happens to be the closest hardware store to my house, which is an added bonus. I used the flat paint and I noticed that some color may come off if you have to wash the walls, but it hasn't happened to me every time I've had to wipe off a spot. So it isn't perfect, but close enough.

When I first moved here 2 yrs ago I needed two entire houses painted-- one was 3700 sq ft and got numerous quotes that were OUTRAGEOUS! I was about to give up and then contacted G Double Painting and their quote was under $3,000 while others were $5-6K! Gary is the owner and is a wonderful guy. They did an awesome job and the house was cleaner when they left then before they started! Our house was empty so they finished the job in just a couple of days!

Gary's the owner and the number is: 919-469-4798

Good luck!

Taryn

I personally don't mind painting, except for ceilings since they break your back. I have painted many rooms in our current house, and I have certain things I like. I good quality 3in angle brush is my favorite for trim and cut in (I have small hands, some might like a wider brush). I hate taping so the angle brush lets me get a clean line. I like Valspar as well. An adjustable pole comes in really handy for getting up high (I'm short too). Use a ziplock bag for brushes and rollers and put them in the refridgerator if you need to use them later...great tip and saves the cleanup which is part no one likes! I've had brushes in the fridge a week and they are still fine.

I hate to pay for painting..only did it on the two story foyer, upstairs hall and ceiling in our bonus room. I think we paid $550 plus paint for that.
