I currently live in Delaware but am considering moving to the Raleigh area. NC has pretty low property taxes I have heard, but it would still be a slight increase from DE. However, we would probably make money on our house here and probably be able to buy a house cheaper there which would lower our monthly mortgage payment.
What is the sales tax in NC?
These are my requirments for a place to live:
Family friendly, good schools, good community, fun stuff to do, not too expensive but not so cheap it is a bad area- a good middle class place, lol. Any suggestions?
Also, my husband currently works for the Delaware Dept. of Trans as a tech. It would be ideal if he could get a job with the NC DOT, and I see they do have postings for techs. And also they do have locations in Wake county, which is excellent. Anyone have anything positive or negative to say about the NCDOT?
I am a teacher and would like to find a teaching job in the Raleigh area. Any suggestions on good school districts to work in or any advice on teaching in NC? In DE, the state is not doing so well financially (for the first time ever) and they made tons of teacher cut backs and finding a job here for this year will be really hard. Right now I do case management for a non-profit which I am sure I could find similar work in NC if teachers aren't needed.
Lastly, we are getting ready to take our annual road trip to FL and might make a stop in the Raleigh area to take a quick tour on our way home. Is there any place we should look specifically or any businesses that help relocators?
Any other info you could provide would be great! Thanks!!!!
Sales tax in NC is a two-part tax, state and local. The current state sales tax rate is 4.25%. The local sales tax portion varies depending on the sales location. For most areas of the state, the combined general sales tax is 6.75%, but can be as high as 7.25% for some.
There's no NC sales tax on motor vehicles purchases, instead we have a one-time Highway Use Tax (HUT). Newcomers normally pay $150 or less per vehicle at time of registration.
