OK. I find only these synagogues in the Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, and Apex area.

I am wondering which of these is the most welcoming and least judgmental. I am Jewish and married to a non-Jewish man. I have felt somewhat put-off by some attitudes I have encountered in synagogues where I am from, New Mexico. As a result...I do not go too much to synagogue...which is a bummer.

In addition to these synagogues listed, are there others?

There is also Chabad of Cary. Shaarei Israel in North Raleigh which is Lubavitch. I have hear great things about Shaarei. There are alot of people here who aren't very religious and belong here because of the welcoming environment.

We belonged to Temble Beth Or when we lived in the area. Liked it very much. It is reformed. For the triangle, it is a large congregation. My son went to the preschool at Beth Meyer which is Conservative. We liked this temple as well. Smaller than Beth Or and I would say it is a little more welcoming because of its size.

Good luck. Hope this helps.

I am a member at Beth Meyer. Rabbi Solomon is one of the most welcoming people I know and his wife is also a rabbi. She teaches a lot of women's topics, etc.

I forgot to add that he just wrote a long essay on families with one Jewish parent and how welcoming the congregation is. I can't find my copy but if you stop in, they'll have the article in the synagogue's newsletter this month or last's.

I have a coworker whose husband is the incoming president at Judea Reform. My coworker is Catholic. I'd say they're welcoming.

I didn't see Beth El on your list, which is a conservative temple in Durham.

Beth Meyer is welcoming and non-judgmental (in my opinion). The whole Triangle area is a mixed bag to begin with and the congregation reflects on that.

Thank you all...sounds like we could check out a number of congregations in the area and feel welcome. I hope to visit one of them while I am on vacation there next month.

We are also members of Beth Meyer and I agree that Rabbi Solomon is very welcoming and so is the congregation.

I have found Temple Beth Or to be a very welcoming place - people from the congregation went out of their way to say hello and connected us with a nice couple who were similar in age, with whom we've become friends. The music is AMAZING! And the rabbis were really warm, as well. Highly recommended!
