Hey everyone. My family and I just relocated form the DC area and I'm looking for a daycare and/or preschool for my 4 year old son. We'd like to keep the prices under (hopefully well under!) $100/week but we'd like the school to be more than just a place where he spends all day staring at a TV set. Private home or center is fine as long as the above are met. We live off of Perry Creek Rd so we'd like to have him some where moderately close if possible. Thanks for any help!

Are you looking for full-day care? I think the going rate for a 4-year-old will be in the range of $800 per calendar month at a private pre-school or children's center.

If you are looking for a true preschool (not full time daycare) You might check the Endeavor preschool. They are new this year and the school is waitlist only now but htey still have some spots in their 4 year old preschool and tuition is $400 a month. Endeavor Charter School | Information (http://www.endeavorcharterschool.com/1697105139934430/site/default.asp - broken link)

If you are looking for full-time daycare/preschool the going rate is around $800 a month.

Jeez! $800 is a lot! I'd be happy with 3-day and/or half-day care. We don't need anything fancy or a private children's center. I just want him to have some socialization and schools skills instilled before he starts kindergarten next year (he'll be 5 in March). We don't subscribe to any religion but we would consider church based care as well.

You will be extremely lucky to find any kind of full-time accredited care for under $700-$800 per week. Part-time might be a different story. My 4 year old son is in a company-subsidized daycare for $600 per month. That is pretty low.

Wow, why is child care so high down here? And how come there is no pre-k offered at the public schools? At least in MD we had public pre-k. I may have to keep him home.

Christian preschools are frequently less expensive because their rent is subsidized by the church and their teachers often work for less. My daughter went to a wonderful Christian preschool (it's in Cary or I'd recommend it) 3 mornings a week last year and it cost $155/month. I haven't heard of much that's significantly less expensive than that. I think that that type of set up will provide your son with the socialization he needs and prepare him for kindergarten. I would call around now because 4 year old slots can be particularly tough to come by, but if you're persistent I think you will find something by the start of the school year. Good luck.

They may be full already and you might feel that they are a little out of your way but you might also check Hope Lutheran in Wake Forest, St. Catharine's in Wake Forest and Friendship Christian on Falls of the Neuse.

There is a huge difference between daycare (full time or part time) and private pre school.

I stayed at home with my kids when they were younger but once they turned 3 years old, I wanted them to have some socialization so I opted for pre school.

At 3 years old, I sent them 2 mornings a week. At 4 years old, I sent them 3 mornings a week and then then went off to public kindergarten.

If this is something you are looking for, the churches in the area are going to be the best price. I sent mine to Raleigh Pre School but that was because it was a parent co op and that was what I wanted.
