Apartments in Durham and Raleigh? (apartment complexes, gated community, living in)

Hello all. I am looking for an apartment in either Durham or Raleigh. My husband works off of 70, so we would like an apartment within half an hour or so of there. We'd prefer not to live too close to the airport so that we don't receive jet noise and pollution. What are some of the safer apartment complexes in Raleigh and Durham?

I really have to recommend Colonial Grand at Crabtree, almost at the corner of 70 (Glenwood) and Millbrook. Gated community, very safe, great neighbors, great management, and very affordable. I live there and work in SW Durham, so it's an easy 25-30 minute commute. But if your husband is on 70, it's only 1 to 20 minutes, max.
