I used to go to a small store in California to get good walking shoes. They would watch me walk and see where I needed support and then fit me with a really good pair of shoes. Is there anyplace in Raleigh like that?

I haven't been there, but perhaps this place:

Start Off on the Right Foot With the Right Walking Shoes :: WRAL.com

There's also The Walking Company at Triangle Town Center Mall and Fleet Feet Sports in the Ridgewood Shopping Center 3546 Wade Avenue.

There is a 'Good Feet' store in Raleigh:

There are two 'The Walking Company' stores - one in Cary and one in Raleigh:
The Walking Company

Hope that helps.

Edited to add.... I've heard good things about this store in Durham, though I've never been there:

There is a shop, upstairs in Triangle Towne Center (if you dare!), that called "The Walking Store" or something like that. Their shoes are pretty pricey but I think the employees do a good job of fitting.

Yes, there is a place like that. It is in Brier Creek shopping center named Foot Solutions. Foot Solutions - Raleigh -

You may have to make an appointment as when I was there, they seemed to be busy.
