We love Brinkley Farms. They come to the Durham market. They have amazing pork products and good fruit/veg. Got a huge, delicious honeydew there this week for only $2.00!
I prefer Carrboro over Durham's because even tho I am a dog lover, they don't allow them at the Carrboro market, while they do in Durham and they are always disruptive. Unfortunately the dogs get out of hand, many are not well leash trained and there's always 2 or 3 that fight with every dog they go by. It's just not worth it anymore to go there and it's very disappointing...
I prefer any of the ones with a locally grown requirement (Durham, Carrboro, Moore Square, Wake Forest, even Cary, and I'm sure I'm missing some). They all have more organic products, smaller farms, and more of the farmers selling. For us Carrboro is just a little too far, so we usually go to Durham. I do like the fact that the State Farmer's Market is 7 days a week and year-round, but tend to go there only when the more local markets aren't available.
Lurk,
I forget if you've mentioned where you are, but if Carrboro is too far, and you are heading over to Durham, have you ever checked out the S. Estes Dr or Hillsborough markets? What do you think about them?
I wish I lived closer to Raleigh. I would love to go daily to a farmers' market. It would remind me of how I grew up, buying food each day for dinner that night. Talk about fresh. Now it's "buy in bulk" -- yuck.
I like the NC State one off Centennial Parkway in Raleigh. There's an older lady there - first booth from the roadway - she's African-American - that sells live plants and herbs. She's been having a few veggies & fruits, too.
She's a sweetheart!
