I like them both I guess. Chargrill is nice and small and never greasy, which I like most of the time, but Cookout is good too.
We also really like the burgers at Spirits in Cary. I'm not too impressed with Burger Fi. It's fine, but not good enough (IMO) to justify their ridiculous prices.
I prefer Cookout because there's not many places besides Cookout where you can get a footlong hot dog. Char-Grill has the Brightleaf hot dogs which I don't like. I also really like the hush puppies at Cookout. I just wish more of the Cookouts had seating, like the one on Western Blvd. But if I want a burger, I'll pick Five Guys any day!
I grew up going to Chargrill, but I don't really go anymore. They don't have many options for people that don't eat beef or pork. The burgers and hotdogs were always good, but the chicken sandwich is crazy dry. I sent an e-mail suggesting turkey burgers, but never heard anything back. Maybe I'll send another e-mail.
I love Cookout's milkshakes and Cheddar Style chicken sandwiches (no bacon). There's no locations near me, but I go when I can.
I like lots of different burgers - kind of depends on the mood I'm in. Prefer Five Guys over BurgerFi (although perhaps I'm not being fair to BurgerFi - tried to order off the "secret menu" and thought it was dry because I didn't realize that I should have ordered some extra toppings to make it less dry. The meat was tasty, but dry), Char-Grill over Cookout. But it DEFINITELY makes a difference going to the original Char-Grill on Hillsborough. We tried the one on Edwards Mill and it really wasn't as good. Not sure if it's just all the extra grease built up over the years but it definitely has taste! And perfect crisp-tender fries - quality control is pretty good there whereas at Five Guys, sometimes the fries are great, sometimes burnt, sometimes too greasy.
Ditto that. I can't help but wonder about the people who claim it's the best burger. Been there 3 times, had 3 undercooked, extremely greasy burgers. Some of the worst burgers I've EVER had in my life, and probably the most expensive burger I've ever had. $12 for a burger fries and drink, in a "fast food setting", is absurd.
Yeah. That sums up my thoughts

I'm always surprised at the number of people who have never heard of Fat Daddy's, much less have never eaten there. Do yourself a favor and try it. It's on Glenwood, across from Golfsmith.
I've taken quite a few friends there, who have lived here for a couple of years, and never tried it. They are now fans.
