If an officer pulls you over in your company truck that has expired registration he can write you a ticket for the violation even though the vehicle isn't registered in your name. Unfortunately when you drive a vehicle you are accountable for insuring everything is up to date and current or you are liable. The only time you aren't responsible is when it comes to insurance violations. You can't be written a ticket for anything insurance related (no insurance, etc...) if the vehicle isn't registered in your name.
I'd definitely tell your company to get on the ball and get the registration updated. Most of the time if I pulled over a company vehicle I'd just warn the driver since it was really the companies fault even though I could have ticketed him. I'd only write the ticket if the driver was rude (more common than you might think).
It was like that when I lived in NYC and had a 64 Vette.
If you were polite and apologized, you almost always got a pass on traffic tickets or drinking beer in the subway, etc. If you were an a-hole, you got written up and maybe got your butt warmed with a nightstick. This was in the 60's, you understand.
Now, if you went home and cried to Pop about the mean officer, you'd really find out how well a tush could be tanned.
I just remebered that my license plates are expired this month...How long do I have until the police can give me a ticket???
Let's walk through this one together. Your plates expire this month. This is December, which has 31 days. Today is December 30th. Therefore, you have 1 day left until your plates are expired and you can receive a ticket.
It amazes me how many people use the reasoning "I did not get my renewal" I am sorry people but driving and owning a car is a responsibility just as paying your house mortgage and any other thing that requires fees to maintain. It is time to step up and be responsible for your own failures. Now before everyone flames me, I know sometimes one can forget but if you do then do not try and justify it with some lame excuse that "no one told me"

Best of luck.
Actually, you have a 15 day grace period on your plates. So, if your plate sticker is December 09, you ahve until Jan 15th to renew your plates. Look on your registration cards. It has the actual expiration date on it. YOu cna renew online immediately. I believe that puts you as current in the system even though you don't have the new sticker, so if you happen to get stopped, the computer would show you as OK.
Your inspection, prior to the new stickerless thing, you did not have a grace peiod. Not sure now, since you just have to have it done before you renew your tags.
