OK, I have contacted FOUR fence companies and not one has gotten back to me with a quote. Two actually came out to my house and took measurements and said I'd have a quote within a day, and that was 4 days ago! I went to companies that were recommended here....just wondering if that is par for the course here. Granted, it's not a huge fence--only about 100 linear feet--but it is vinyl picket fence and we're surely looking at several thousand dollars.
We dealt with a bit of the same thing a few months ago when trying to get quotes from fencing companies. We had to constantly stay on top of them, and repeatedly email and call them back in order to get our quotes.
One company even said they lost our email, and we had to start the process all over again. In the end, the company we ended up going with was the last one we requested a quote from, and they were pretty timely about getting back to us, and just so happened they gave us the best quote too.
I went through the same thing this summer- and the one company that did get back to me ended up sending a subcontractor out to do the work. I think they are just really busy in the summer. PM if you want direct info on our subcontractors- they were fabulous!
With all the growth and new homes, they all have more business than they know what to do with. They can cherry pick good jobs (i.e. large, expensive jobs, like those $20,000 aluminum fences that are meant to look like wrought iron) and leave the "little guys" hanging for awhile. Plus, I've talked to some that say they always build in a little time to let the homeowner get approval from the HOA first anyway.
I had the same problem - I tried four and Seegars was the only one to come out, and they did after multiple calls. It was a little difficult to get them scheduled, but they got it done only three days later than they said, which was more than I was hoping for. My big complaint with them is that they left a bunch of trash around the fence - cig butts and things like that. I thought the pricing was reasonable and I had just under 500 feet.
They actually just contracted someone else to do it and they showed up wearing their own fencing company gear - which I thought was kind of funny.
Yes, Seagers was one of the ones I contacted for a quote. They even came out and measured, but never sent a quote (they said I'd have it by email). I'm still working on it and am on the verge of doing it myself!

.
Seegars think they own the business and pretty much outprice everyone else.
We've just met with Harrisons who spent about 2 hours talking with us (though only about 30mins was to do with the fence). Nice folk though.
