When we retire and downsize I am wondering what
options we have in N Raleigh or Wake Forest
for neighborhoods with small houses and decent lots under 300K.

Define small and decent.

If under 2,000 sq/ft is small to you and .25 acres is decent I would look at homes in Durant Trails of N. Raleigh for great homs in the $200-$250K price range.

On my friendly U-pick the Zip code and it does the rest real estate website it found 136 current listings of homes $275k and under in Wake Forest zip code, 27587. I'm sure there is a decent home or lot, and/or home/lot within that number of available homes. I think you can downsize a might comfortably here in Wake Forest!

Good luck!

Brentwood has a few issues but is a great value in North Raleigh.
