Moderator cut: removed In general, Directv has a couple of sports packages that Dish doesn't. If you like premium movies channels in HD both have tons of those with Dish having slightly more. Both are going thru major HD expansions. Also visit the websites of each company and do a comparison. I have Directv and I'm into HD so they're strong in that area but so is Dish.

I have had both. Both are good, quality service. It should all come down to 2 things:

1) programming
2) price

If you are into sports, noone can touch DirectTV. We just moved here from Boston and need our Boston sports. DirectTV was a no brainer. My neighbor has Dish and is happy with them. But as he said, he is not into sports. Carefully check the channels available with each.

Also see what each will give you for equipment. Both should be very competitive with free satellite receivers, dish, and install (with 2 year commitment of course).

Your particular location (Holly Springs) shouldn't really impact your decision. IMO.

I cannot live without Directv. They do nickel and dime you with the additional fees though. I don't know if DISH does the same thing, but like others said before, if you want sports packages, Directv wins in a landslide.

Default I went with Dish...

I think DirecTV has more sports and I love sports but I went with Dish b/c it offered a fantastic combo HD DVR for no cost. That would have cost me $200 from DirecTV at the time (from a year ago, this could have changed). So for me it was about the equipment not the programming. Anyway, good advice to check out dbstalk and satellite guys for discussions.
