I'm new in town and looking for a place to buy a unique cocktail dress for hopefully less than $200. I'd know exactly where to go in my hometown but I'm at a loss here in the Triangle. I'm in my mid-20s and I like anything slightly left of center, be it retro or super fashion-forward. I've been shopping online, but my measurements are kind of off kilter, so buying in person would be better. Any recommendations? (boutiques, outlets, local shops, etc.)

You can try Ross or Marshall's. They have nice coctail dresses there.

My luck at Marshall's can be hit & miss, but I have occasionally found very nice things there - including a very cute semi-retro style cocktail dress I picked up last year.

You might find something at Off 5th, the outlet store for Saks Fifth Avenue. It's just south of RDU at the Morrisville Outlet Mall. The prices aren't super cheap, but you can get some very nice things for much less than you'd normally expect to pay. I imagine you might find a cute cocktail dress under $200 there.

I have yet to go check out the new location, but Revolver Consignment on Glenwood South I hear is awesome! Its supposed to be nothing like your typical consignment/thrift store. Check out the reviews on citysearch, there is a good descrip there. They also have a blog with some photos if you are interested.
