We are a middle-age, professional couple (no kids) with two well-behaved dogs. We are planning on moving to the Cary area for October 1st, and are looking for a 2 bedroom apartment in a nice community ($700-$900 range.) Our priorities would be saftey / low crime, room to walk and play with the dogs, close to dining/shopping options, and amenities such as a good gym, pool, etc. We like the looks of Legends at Preston, and Preston's Reserve. I *think* we'd like to stay in the West Cary / Morrisville area, but are open to suggestions. We will be visiting the area this weekend, just to drive around and get a feel for things. We've heard that downtown Cary is quaint and safe..... are there any good rental communties around there?
Does anyone have a recommendation for an apartment community that might be worth a look? Alternatively, is there anything that you think we ought to stay away from?
I don't know all of the apartment complexes in Cary - there are many. We rented for a couple of months until we closed on our home. It was Vista at the Park on Rt 55 in Cary. Only 2 years old - very nice and pet friendly. We had a fireplace, wrap around porch. There are 2 pools, 24 hr access to a business center and gym.
A couple of others which are very lovely but I don't know their pet status:
Marquis at Preston
Marquis at Weston
Brook Arbor
My wife and I lived at the Legends at Preston for a while after moving here in '01. We were satisfied with the apartment and the management. Prices back then were higher than the range you cite but have probably come down by now.
Camden Lake Pine (Apex/Cary), nestled around peaceful Lake Pine is wonderful.
Camden Westwood in Morrisville is yet another. Good location if you want to be closer to RTP.
We looked at most of the apartments mentioned in this post and they are all nice. We finally however, settled on Bridges at Wind River. We felt their floorplans were better and bigger. The other thing is it is about a mile from the Brier Creek Shopping center. It is also right outside RTP (Alexander and Page) so the commute is almost non-existent.
All the usual apartment amenities, gym, business center, pool, gated entry.
We're back from our day-trip to the Triangle. I think we need to do some more looking!!
We started out visiting Legends at Preston.... saw a tiny, vacant 1-bedroom apartment.....not as nice as we expected, especially for the price. But nice location on the golf course.
So we decided to drive through a few communities to see if any seemed to jump out at us. Preston Reserve, Northwood Mews (yikes!), and on toward downtown Cary. The fellow at Legends suggested Avalon Peaks in Apex, so we drove down there.... wasn't impressed. Drove up to Briar Creek and had lunch. LOVED the area! Would be great to walk to everything.
All fueled up, we drove to the Briar Creek communities.... Highland, Alexan, Preserve, Carrington, and finally Bexley. They were all lovely, but way too crowded.... buildings so close together, patios overlooking parking lots, barely any room to drive down the narrow "streets".... and worst of all, we didn't see anywhere to walk/play with the dogs. We felt almost clausterphobic driving through the communties.... too many people trying to live in a relatively small space. It was such a disappointment, because the area and ammenities were just awesome.
Soooo.... the search continues. We're going to broaden our search to areas perhaps in Chapel Hill (near 1-40, not the other side of UNC), maybe the areas around Southpoint / Woodcroft........ and I'm sure we've missed a lot in Cary. Someone mentioned Brook Arbor and Brampton Moors?
Having said all that..... we're now going to look for communities that are not so crowded, buildings not so close together - perhaps we'll need to look at something a tad older, but still well-kept. Somewhere that has green spaces, or backs onto trails and/or parks? We like Lake Lyn, but heard that it's not so safe there any more?
Suggestions??? Thank you so much for helping us in our quest!!
You could try the apartments here in Carpenter Village, off of Morrisville-Carpenter Road, between 55 and Davis Drive - Olde Towne at Carpenter Village. It seems like everyone there has a dog and the apartments are across from the largest grassy common area in the neighborhood and we have the lake path for nice walks.
I've been using Google Earth to check out the lay of the land on various communities. Both "Marquis at Silverton" and "Marquis at Cary Parkway" look like they'd be perfect for dog walking and general strolling. The buildings appear to be well-kept, with enough space between them, and plenty of greenspace.
Has anyone lived in either one of these communities, or can offer any opinion one way or another?
Thank you
