Hi everyone. We are wondering what salary ranges are like out there for software engineers/ developers, experienced ones, not entry level. We have looked at some job postings like Cisco, for example, but they don't list any salary info. Is that the normal custom? Out here a range is usually given in job description.

Thanks all. Hope that isn't too personal a question.

I believe that is a normal thing with alot of big companies, because everyone's salary is different depending on experience. I know some programmers at IBM that make 85k to someone elses 150k that have the same title. I know someone that makes more than his manager also ;-)

Yeah, Debbie is right on that one. I think most of the big companies out there (ibm, cisco, etc) everyone is in a salary "band", and that band could go from, let's say 85-150k, then the next band up would be from 92-175k, so they have overlap. At least with IBM it also depends on which part of the company you are going to work for, meaning which group, because each group gets differing amounts of money for hiring, raises, etc based on their performance throughout the year.

I am sure the companies would give you a WIDE range of salary, regardless of experience level.

Thanks all, that helped a lot. We were just looking for a very general ballpark figure. My hubby has to choose between taking a severence package and leaving the co. and taking another job entirely or, they have offered to let him telecommute from RD for sure with a possible promo/raise. So we just needed to be able to compare some numbers.

We just aren't sure what to do....

Love this board though. Thanks for all the helpful info. You all are awesome.
