A person came to our door this afternoon in Cary. He rang the door bell and pounded on the front door for a good 3 minutes before my wife could get there. He had on a logo shirt for Malachi house. I was watching him the entire time from the upstairs. My wife answered the door. He began a sales pitch, which my wife quickly declined. He asked if he could come in and speak to her. She declined and began closing the door at which point he stepped towards the door. I ran downstairs and approached this person, now standing about 2 feet from our door. I'm a fairly big guy and I gave him the death stare. He quickly said thank you and walked off. He was trying to pressure my wife to let him in and would not leave. As he left, he looked around the sides of our home. The brochure looks like a poorly made copy of an original. He went to a few other houses then walked a good 1/4 mile down the road and jumped in a heap of junk car with another seedy looking character and drove away.

I think he is casing houses out and would not be surprised if he forces his way into someone's home.

Be careful and if you see these people, I would advise calling the authorities.

CarolinaCowboy, you should call the police about that. Did you happen to notice the make or model of the car?

I hope you called the police. In this world today it's gotta be neighbor looking out for neighbor.

Cary has seen a rise in recent days of house burglaries, primarily with home owners leaving their garage doors opened for extended periods. And yes, they have been doing this during daylight hours. They will enter your garage look around and steal whatever they can take. It is a good idea to be alert to all suspicious activities and alert the local authorities.

I saw something similar a couple of days ago. People are dressing in uniforms similar to the utility and home builder companies to gain entrance into your home. One person talks to the home owner and the other goes through your house. I never open the door for strangers. I'd call the police so they know what area he's targeting. Scary stuff. Good thing you were home.

Progress Energy issued an alert yesterday about people pretending to be from Progress Energy trying to talk their way into customer homes.

Yes do call the police. About a month ago we had a group of black gentleman from Malachi House go through our neighborhood. They showed up in a white 12 passenger van with the Malachi House logo on the side. They were all well dressed with Malachi polos. They had printed professional brochures with them. They canvased the neighborhood (there were about a dozen of them) and they were very courteous at the door and did leave a brochure if we "wanted to read it for more info" and then left......nicely. Nothing like you described.

Our community has a "no soliciting policy". Report them and maintenance asks them to leave before calling Raleigh PD.

My neighborhood has a huge "No Soliciting" sign at the entrance but it doesn't stop them all!

The sign may not stop them, Vicki, but it allows you to lock them up if they refuse to leave when asked.
