I'm not familiar with the Butner news. But I know many people like the coupons in the Pennysaver and Clipper Magazine.
do what I do stick tree gumballs in the slot below the mailbox or better yet stick real chewed up gum on something and stick it in the slot.

OP I would call your local police department and ask if there is any ordinances or hefty permit you will need, but unless your in a scout uniform I am not answering the door.

I fully support the Boy and Girl Scouts, St.Judes and many others, but even this is not full proof. I remember an article a few years ago about a father making his three children dress up as scouts and sell products door to door under false pretenses. He was netting $500-$1000 per day until he got caught. I'm not sure what jail time or fines he faced. I would guess most scouts who show up are legitimate, but you never know. But darn those cookies they sell, sure are good.

Like the rest, I hate door-to-door salespeople and don't open the door for them.

What I despise even more is the flyers stuck to the side of the mailbox. I don't even LOOK at them, I just march them to the side of the house and toss them in the trash. The ONLY exception to this was our house painter...and then only because we had planned on calling on them for an estimate anyway so it made finding their number convenient.

If I need/want a service I will ask my neighbors and friends for a recommendation or post here.

As someone else mentioned, if they aren't professional enough to at least mail it to my home, then it's not someone I'd likely do business with.

*on a side-note...the house painter...I'd probalby not use them again. They did a wonderful job but not more than 2 months after they finished our home, we were still getting their flyers on our mailbox once every other month or so. They could at LEAST update their list of homes serviced so they don't keep soliciting us for services 2 months after their work was completed. That is annoying and it's just pure lazy!!

Just please don't go house to house ringing doorbells at 8:45PM on a Sunday night like someone did last night selling interior design services. She's lucky my 3 kids didn't wake up. Unbelievable.

On my mailbox: if it's a flier for a restaurant that delivers, I'll take it in and put it in my takeout file. If it's anything else, it's chucked in the recycling bin.

Door to door salesmen: never open the door if they're shady looking. If they're wimpy looking, I open the door and tell them the no soliciting signs at the front of the neighborhood were put there after all the neighbors agreed that we didn't want to buy anything from creepy door to door salespeople.
