Any good watch shops? Don't need to be a Rolex/Citizen type watch store...I have about $300 I'd like to spend on a pocket watch and I'm not having much luck with standard jewelers.

Any watch stores anywhere in the triangle?

Have you tried the Flea Market at the State Fairgrounds? Seems like I remember seeing pocket watches there. My mom bought me a beautiful pocket watch years ago, that she found at an Antique store.

I've seen a few at Walmart on New Hope Church Road. Inexpensive ones.

I have seen these in the watch kiosks in the malls. I saw them at a Northgate kiosk, but it was ages ago; not sure now. I also did not investigate the quality. I had looked for one for hubby for a long time without luck, and had given up (settled for a geeky binary watch, LOL) by the time I saw these.

Are you looking for a mechanical or quartz?

I think mechanical - looking for something higher end than just a mass-produced one - I know places like Fossil carry them, but more interested in something mid-high end. I'd assume that, much like a regular watch, 300 bucks gets you a pretty nice pocket watch (but not the best of the best)

If I was looking for a nice pocket watch, I'd look at Hamilton. They made some very good mechanical railroad watches.

Those are all antique though, right? They don't make new ones anymore? And if I wanted one, where could I buy one in the triangle?

They still make them. Check out their website. Hamilton Watch (http://www.hamiltonwatch.com/webapp/en-us/collection/?c=ac&y=68 - broken link).

Here's a couple of watch forums that I subscribe to. I don't know how much research you've already done, but there's a lot of knowledge there. You should be able to get a "discount" from their sponsors, also.

Great info - thanks!

Unfortunately despite the wealth of knowledge and selection, this is something I need to get within the next week so brick and mortar may be my only option

Anyone even know of a watch store period? Someone I could call and maybe they can direct me?
