Well stated, Shoes. I'm hoping that our newcomers will drag this state--albeit, kicking and screaming--into the 21st century. LLN hit it re corruption. Liquor distributors pay big bucks to the campaign coffers of individuals who appoint the members of the ABC board, who then decide where stores are located and how much it's gonna cost. Bad, bad system. In Lake Norman territory, Iredell County just held a referendum finally allowing restaurants (including those who already had bars), to serve mixed drinks. This is 2008. But what really pisses me off is not being able to buy anything, in this case alcohol, because some Christian thinks I ought to be in church. I'll decide when and where to practice my religion, thank you.
I'm glad people want to move here and increase our tax base in spite of all this crap.

Wow. And we wonder why some natives are touchy about this kind of stuff? That's pretty insulting in a lot of ways. Your assumption is that, if the majority of people in a place disagree with you, they're backwards or behind the times.
The city of Raleigh is conducting a survey to find out residents' thoughts about changing the state's ABC system. If you have an opinion about how liquor is sold in NC (as I know many on this board do!), tell Raleigh what you think!
