I keep hearing good things about Clayton and searching on realtor.com - I see some 1500 sq ft houses, about 10-15 years old, 1/2 acre, etc. They look great to us. Nothing special but nice. We will be visiting soon but just wondering - is this realistic? Are there bad areas in Clayton?

Thanks

We moved to Clayton 4 months ago. We have been very happy here. If you have children, I would check out the schools in the area you want to live in. Some schools in this area have better reputations than others. Other than that we love the area.

Thanks, good to hear. Still wondering about those prices. We don't need 3000+ sq ft or marble this and that, but we do want a nice safe area.
These homes I see for 150 - 175 - Are they in ok areas.

I know I cant post site links but here are some streets

3109 Claim Road
143 Alan Lane
105 Mayflower Way
2012 Myrtle Lane
811 Yorkshire Dr

If you can zillow them, great.

Thanks

Just to give you an idea, we paid in the higher $220's for a new 2700sq ft home in Clayton on 1.375 acres back in early 2007. We are outside city limits in the even more rural part of clayton. We probably overpaid a bit also at that time. For an older home and sq footage you mention, that price does not sound too cheap for Clayton if that is what you are concerned about and possibly may even be on the high side slightly at this time (although I have not been watching the real estate market). I am not really familiar with the addresses you provided as we are still feeling our way here (we actually moved down earlier this year). There are better areas than others as in most areas and clayton is fairly large. Like anything else, best bet is to come see for yourself, setup some appointments with a real estate agent for some of the places you feel might be right for you, etc.

I have lived in Clayton for about two years now, originally from Raleigh. Two things: 1.) my part time job is delivering pizzas. Even in the "questionable" neighborhoods, I have never run into any problems and I would even consider them to be extremely safe. 2.) I know the house on Yorkshire. I actually live in an Anderson home either on or around Yorkshire and I can tell you first hand, its an extremely safe neighborhood. Extremely quiet, not over-run by kids (there are a few but they are extremely polite).

The house is very nice too! So are the neighbors!

Good luck!!!

(and yes, thats about the average price for houses in Clayton. Keep in mind, taxes are a bit cheaper than Wake). If you have kids the schools are awesome!

PS- If you do decide on the house on Yorkshire, just to give you fair warning: Halloween is HALLOWEEN there! I'm talking about that old fashioned type of Halloween where the houses are decorated, the streets are literally filled with kids in costume and you'll probably run out of candy. Last year, we had well over 200 kids. Christmas, same deal. Houses are decorated. I'm not talking just a few lights, I'm talking Clark W. Griswald decorated, lol.
Its a great time!

Default 105 Mayflower Way

I just moved into this subdivision, The Gardens in Flowers Plantation, and it seems very quiet and safe. Flowers Plantation has positive reviews on city-data. It's a little farther east in clayton for commutes, though.

Flowers is gorgeus! I think some of my top favorite subdivisions is Flowers, Riverwood (even though they dont have mailboxes), and Glen Laurel.

We moved from LA to Clayton 2 months ago and love it here.
We've gotten over our original fear as what starts as a main thoroughfare heads off into the country and you wonder where you'll end up as you always end up back in civilization.
Clayton elementary seems to be a wonderful school and my kids have made a lot of good friends here already and are having sleep overs and going to birthday parties.
We paid in the upper 2's for our 3100 sq ft home in Flowers Plantation but it was new construction so that won't relate to your search.
You'll get more land with a 10 year old place which I think is great.
Clayton is very safe and the folks are very warm and friendly.
I hope you do well with your search!

Not so great schools. Price tag no where near 175k. More like 275k.
