I wrote before and was looking for a place in northern Durham. i wasn't comfortable with the area so we decided on south west durham. we picked a place on the corner of garrett rd. and old chapel hill road. I was wondering what people thought of this area. whats around and is it safe. it looks good. right near jordan high school. any feedback would be great. thanks!

Yes, there are many beautiful homes in that area, and it is a nice, safe area.

As far as what's around there... the question might be, what's not around there? You are really centrally located in SW Durham.

Welcome!

We moved to SW Durham a year ago. Our year in the Triangle area has only underscored that, for us, the location we chose was perfect. The area overlaps with Chapel Hill, and our living patterns are centered these two communities. We almost never have cause to go to Raleigh or Cary because so much shopping, dining and other enrichment is right here.

Safe is a relative term, I suspect. I've lived in middle class communities most of my life and SW Durham is in alignment with them, with the added benefit of greater diversity than some of my former neighborhoods.

I recently moved from the Burch Ave. neighborhood just west of downtown (a place I miss) to Woodcroft. Initially I though that I was moved to a place that was completely seperate from the rest of the city. Truth is, it still contains some of the great qualities of other parts/neighborhoods of the city. The diversity (while not as great, still moreso than other local cities/towns) the amount of places to eat, shop and play are still high and I'm centrally located between the downtowns of Durham and Chapel Hill. I couldn't think of a better location. I don't feel any safer (not that I ever felt frightened in the other neighborhood).

I live right there. It's relatively safe. When you ask, "whats around" there's a lot around. You have homes, apartments, gas stations, Harris Teeter, Kroger, Food Lion, Target and Sam's, Neo China, Bank of America, Wachovia and other things all within 2 miles of that corner.
