What do you all think the next “big thing” will be for Raleigh in the next few years? In my eighteen months living here I have witnessed the following major events take place that could have long lasting effects on the area:

1. The Billion Dollar School Bond Passed
2. Construction of the new Downtown Convention Center began
3. The 264/64 Bypass opened
4. Another section of I-540 opened
5. Downtown Fayetteville Street Opened up
6. Multiple downtown condominium projects were either completed or started
7. A proposal was introduced to convert Dorothea Dix Campus into 306 Acre World Class Park

What else should be added to the list? What do you think the next big thing will be for the Raleigh area?

I think you covered most of the recent stuff.

One that I hope and pray will become a reality in the near future would be Hillsborough Street Revitalization. (If the city council could ever agree on a plan.)

How about the new RBC tower downtown? Here's what the skyline is supposed to look like...

Thanks for that. I cannot believe how cool that was to look at. Now that I have a house there, I feel like I am a part of it, and I look forward to getting involved in our community. It sure looks pretty. If anyone on this thread has ever been to CA, at least SO. CA. you cannot imagine how beautiful it is to see how nice your freeways are. My husband and I find it a delight just to drive on your freeways, so nice. Here in So Cal it is just cement and dead hillsides, old buildings and no thought to making it look pretty on the freeways, just to fit as much as we can in as small a space as we can do it.

Oh yea...no argument there. North Carolina highways are like paradise compared to California. Driving down US-101 south of San Jose feels like you're driving through Mexico! It's not anything like I would have expected from the richest state in the union.

Milestones for Raleigh. This got me to thinking. I wonder where Raleigh is going? Will someday Raleigh be a bustling metropolis? What city today might compare with the future Raleigh?
