Well, yet another shooting in Raleigh. I don't know if it is the economic issues making people snap or if this is just one of those times when there is a flurry of crime, as things can come in waves in the city. This one wasn't actually on Capital Blvd for a change, but it was close.

Do you think it's happening more or that you are just noticing it more?

Not sure. It seems that things come in waves and then they are calm for a while. Not sure if the media does not report evenly or if it is just that time of year for doom & gloom reporting. I have noticed an awful lot of issues on and around Capital Blvd. That is a bit troubling.

Mini-City's a bad part of Capital, but it's not all bad.

For all the talk there is about murders in the Triangle, check out this shocking link about Kansas City: www.kansascity.com | Murder's Big Month
When I heard about the number of murders that they have been having, my jaw dropped in disbelief.

If you look at history, during any bad economic downturn, crime always rises. I would say look for a huge increase in home robberies and burglaries. As those who hold up gas stations and quick marts are usually strung out drug addicts. So that will stay about the same. But when you see middle class Americans driving around to look for stuff to steal, you'll know it has gotten bad. And don't think it can't get that bad. I just read a story about the crash in Argentina and Japan. Many common people turned to crime to survive in places where people thought crime could never happen.

The media generally scans police communique and attempts to capture reports as much as they can. However, they air only as much that is needed to fill in time slots not filled with other high profile or scandalous news. Reporting every crime would be rather extensive and taxing on the viewer... almost monotonous and desensitizing as well. Thus, a lot of crimes are not reported for reasons of too little, too much and/or not getting the shot. Remember, the television media is balancing the reporting of 'newsworthy' information with ratings that has everything to do with advertising revenue.

Here's a link to the Raleigh Crime Mapper... LINK. Unfortunately, it wasn't working for me at this time, but it could simply be just a glitch. Make sure to click on and off layers for differering views and crime stats.
