I know young families that make 70k and above and live alright based on what you said above.

Well said , this is the exact reason we will be happy to move to NC. We are not going to look to buy a $500,000 dollar mansion, b/c we can't afford it if we could we wouldn't be moving.. We just want to have a comfortable house and life with in our means. Its unfortunate that so many NYrkers move down, buy houses out right like my neighbor did and was bragging to everyone at the neighborhood get together how he can afford to sit on his ass for about 3 years w/o working, where as everyone else in our neighborhood were hard working middle class families, who worked to be able to afford to live there, not cool ., Some buy very expansive cars on top of it and think their s..t doesn't stink. I think these type of people give us northerners bad name.

Yes, we do get a bad rap, because of a few a****** with a chip on their shoulder and something to prove.

We used to live in NYC. Moved here in 1989 from New Orleans.

Live in a modest flat in a diverse part of North Raleigh and are very happy here.

Laugh at the McMansion crowd. Do they really believe that having a pile of junk makes them better than anyone else?

Many churches here can help redirect this spiritual misconception.
